· Who was your best friend in your early years?  What kinds of things did you do with your best friend? Are you still best friends?

· Jonathan gave up his right to the kingdom because he saw the anointing of God on David.  Who is like a Jonathan to you?  What are they doing to encourage you in your walk?

· From what you see in Saul in this passage what seems to be his biggest problem?

·What did Jonathan and David both have that cemented their friendship so fast?

· What do you think it was like to grow up in Saul’s household?

· What was it like for you to grow up in your household?

· Who would  you most like be in this passage at present?  Saul, Jonathan or David?  Why?

· What is most convicting to you in this passage?  Most encouraging? Most troubling?

· Saul was poisoned by his bitterness toward David, is there anyone you are holding a spirit of bitterness towards?

· How have you seen Christ more clearly from the study of this passage?

· What promises can you take with you from this passage for the next week?

· What is your next step in walking with God?  How can the church assist you in this step?

Have you ever been misled by outward appearance or promises?  Have you ever purchased a product that promised more than it delivered?

 

Why do you think that Samuel anointed David in the presence of his brothers?

 

What can you see in God’s choosing David over all his other brothers?  Is this convicting or comforting to you?

 

If you were in Saul’s court what advice would you have given him about his walk with God?

 

When have you ever felt outnumbered?

 

When it comes to defeating sin in your life do you feel outnumbered?  How can the account of David and Goliath help you in your fight against sin?

 

What caused the Israelites to be afraid of Goliath?  When you are faced with fears in your life how can the Gospel help you overcome them?

 

Why do you think God gave David victory over Goliath?  (Consider I Samuel 17:45-50)

 

How is David’s defeat of Goliath like Christ’s defeat of sin and Satan in our life?

 

What about this text is most convicting to you?  Most comforting to you?

6.  Why do you think Mary got the picture of Jesus going to die and the disciples did not?

7.  From this passage what did Jesus say is most important, religious acts or love for Christ?

8.  What are some obstacles in your life that work against you expressing your love for Christ?

9.  In what ways are you like Mary and in what ways are you like the disciples?

10. How could you demonstrate your love for Christ in this coming week?

11. The chief priests were not convinced even though Lazarus was raised from the dead.  Have you been convinced of the reality of Christ and if so how?
