1. What do you think led the men of Jabesh Gilead to even consider making a treaty with Nahash? 2. How have you made a treaty with the enemy of God? When are you most prone to enter into allegiance with eh enemy?
3. What counsel would you give the men of Jabesh Gilead if you were there to keep them from making an alliance with the enemy?
4. Why do you think Nahash gives them seven days before he conquers them?
5. Saul burned with anger over the condition of the men of Jabesh Gilead. Have you ever been hot with anger over sin in your life? What did you do about it?
6. Consider Samuel’s farewell speech. As you move to the end of your life what would you like to be true about your life?
7. If you were to give counsel to someone who was nearing the end of their life what counsel could you give them from Samuel’s life as he approached the end of his life?
8. Samuel gives the people of Israel a history lesson in Chapter twelve. What is God’s record of delivering his people from their enemies? What would cause Israel to surrender so quickly and want a human king? What is it that causes you to surrender to sin and other evil forces so quickly? What can you do to help guard yourself against such surrender in the future?
9. Samuel has a great message for seniors in chapter twelve. If you were to counsel some one drawing near to the end of their life what counsel can you give them from this text? What one thing do you believe the Lord is commanding you to do as a result of this study today?
